Matthew Schuler
Matthew Schuler is a singer with a knack for pop, rock, and R&B styles who rose to fame in 2013 as a contestant on the televised talent competition The Voice. Born in Levittown, New York in 1992, Matthew Schuler was raised in the Yardley section of Lower Makefield, Pennsylvania. Schuler picked up his passion for singing from his mother and father, Don and Dawn Schuler, both of whom are pastors with the Genesis Community Church (a small worship community which often met in the Schuler's home). When he was a sophomore in high school, Schuler joined a local indie rock band, Threshold, but left the group in 2010 to devote more time to his studies. Schuler's love of music didn't wane, though, and after enrolling at Westchester University, he continued to sing in his spare time, while maintaining a high grade point average and playing on the school's rugby team. In 2013, Schuler decided to take a chance and audition for The Voice; of the thousands who tried out, he became one of the 14 singers chosen to appear on the first episode of Season Five, and was one of only two contestants to be chosen by all four celebrity coaches, as well as turning the four chairs faster than any previous entrant. Schuler became part of the team led by Christina Aguilera, and wowed both judges and fans with his performances of such favorites as Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," One Direction's "Story of My Life," and Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman."
