Marie-José Gibon
Born on June 22, 1965 in Montélimar (26), Marie-José Gibon grew up in Guadeloupe until the age of 9, when she began singing in the Capesterre-Belle-Eau choir. After attempting a degree in business studies at the University of Créteil, she chose the path of music, abandoning her studies to devote herself fully to her artistic career in 1982. She immediately joined the zouk group Kassav' and began collaborating with the group. Making her mark on the Guadeloupean music scene, Marie-José Gibon worked alongside numerous artists, including the groups Maafia and Power 8. In 1990, Marie-José Gibon lent her voice to the album Haute Tension by Georges Décimus's new group, Volt-Face. Better equipped musically, two years later she released her first solo album, Pulsions, under her own name. Accompanied on the production side by leading figures in West Indian music (Jacky Toto, Jean-Claude Naimro, Jocelyne Beroard, Jacob Desvarieux...), Marie-José Gibon rolled out her approach to zouk, supported by the single "Movetan". On the strength of this initial commercial success, the singer teamed up with producer Christian Lester and released her second album in 1996. Anti-Stress seduced her listeners once again with a hit single, "Zoubida", which was widely heard on the European continent. After a brief stint as a presenter in 1998, followed by a third album, Entre-Temps (1999), Marie-José Gibon became more discreet in the 2000s, although she continued her adventure with Kassav'.
