Lady La Varnga Hubbard

Lady LaVarnga Hubbard is a contemporary gospel singer with a big voice that found her featured as a choir soloist from a young age. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she started singing in her local Baptist church when she was nine years old. Hubbard then joined the Ecclesiastes Community Choir under the direction of James C. Chambers before it was rebranded the Chicago Mass Choir in 1988. She joined Ricky Dillard & New "G" in the mid-'90s, taking the lead on recordings of songs such as "Lift Up Your Heads" and "Let the Redeemed Say So." Around that time, she also spent several years as Minister of Music for the Greater Mount Carmel M.B. Church. Billboard-charting gospel singer and songwriter VaShawn Mitchell produced her solo debut, Nobody Else Compares to You, which she self-released in 2006. A live recording, it was followed by another live album, 2010’s Royalty. Hubbard’s children, Veriner James and Rodney Hubbard, Jr., contributed vocals and songwriting to both albums. By 2010, Lady LaVarnga had taken a position as praise & worship leader at the Sweet Holy Spirit Church under Bishop Larry Trotter. Making her debut on Trotter's Utopia Music Group label, she released her third LP, Better Is Coming, in 2017.
