Julia Pratt

A student of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Julia Pratt's body of work reflects the disparate influences acquired in and out of the classroom -- acoustic jazz, downtempo electro-pop, spare folk -- all unified by an expressive voice often heard in stacks of vocal harmonies, as on “A Little Love,” her breakthrough 2023 collaboration with Mt. Joy. Born in Philadelphia, Pratt spent her childhood steeped in music, studying her parents’ record collection and learning how to play everything from saxophone to cello. She soon homed in on vocal performance, backing herself up on keyboard or guitar. In high school, she self-released her first single, 2018’s “All the Girls Are Crazy.” Three years later, just before her first year at Berklee, she self-released the EP Fallout. Consisting of five songs performed on piano, acoustic bass, and drums, Fallout owed debts to the likes of Norah Jones or Corinne Bailey Rae. Subsequent non-LP singles, including “Gold,” “Tried and True,” and “Odyssey” -- the latter of which received airplay on Philadelphia’s WXPN -- showcased her evolving style and penchant for layered vocal production. Pratt enjoyed several overnight breakthroughs in the years following Fallout. In 2022, she was tapped to sing “Fly Higher” for the Emmy-winning Disney+ film Sneakerella, working on the track with R&B producer Theron “Neff-U” Feemster. The following year, “A Little Love,” a song recorded with fellow Philly act Mt. Joy for her Two to Tango EP, went viral, racking up millions of streams. Her third EP, a mostly acoustic affair called Family Feud, was released in 2024.
