Elisa Chan
Elisa Chan was one of Hong Kong's biggest stars during the 1980s and is perhaps best known for her duets with Leslie Cheung. Though she is primarily a Cantonese singer, she also sings in other languages including Mandarin, Japanese, English, and Tagalog.
Born in Hong Kong in 1955, she began her singing career in the '70s, quitting school at age 16 and joining the New Topnotes, an English-language band. In the '80s Chan emerged as a solo star, although her duets with Leslie Cheung proved most popular. Despite the waning of her success over time, she remained active in later years, particularly as a live performer.
