Bebi Romeo

Bebi Romeo is the stage name of Indonesian musician Virdy Megananda, who launched his career as the vocalist of bands like Bima and Romeo before becoming a hit songwriter for a wide range of Indonesian artists. Born in Jakarta on September 6, 1974, he joined Bima in the mid-1990s and appeared on the band's only release, Sebuah Awal, in 1996. Following the group's breakup, he joined Romeo. The group's self-titled debut appeared in 1998 and included "Bunga Terakhir," a popular single written and sung by Bebi Romeo. The band's follow-up albums — 2002's Wanita and 2006's Lelaki Untukmu — failed to generate another hit like "Bunga Terakhir," and Romeo broke up following Lelaki Untukmu's release. Bebi Romeo forged ahead as a solo artist, making his debut with The Singer-Songwriter and releasing various compilations of solo material during the following decade. He enjoyed greater success as a songwriter for other performers. "Mencintaimu," his song for pop singer Krisdayanti, received an AMI Award for "Best Record of the Year," leading to collaborations with artists like Chrisye, Ari Lasso, Soulsisters, and Afgansyah Reza. Bebi Romeo also maintained a collaborative approach with his own songs, teaming up with Judika for the hit single "Oxygen" in 2016.
