Eine Rezension über Ween zu schreiben, versetzt mich in helle Verzückung. Der infantile und vulgäre Humor, den diese zwei Freaks verströmen, läßt mich immer wieder schmunzeln.
Musikalisch hat sich seit "The Mollusk" nicht viel ereignet. Gott-Ween-Satan sei Dank! Gene Ween bewegt sich bei "Even If You Don't" gesanglich im Umfeld von John Lennon und Paul McCartney. Dieser Song klingt wie ein verlorener Beatles-Song aus den späten 60ern, allerdings mit weniger anspruchsvollen und ernst zu nehmenden Lyrics.
Auch Brian Ferry scheint ein großes Vorbild des Weeners zu sein, der diesen bei "Bananas And Blow" fast täuschend echt imitiert. Diesen Song mit dem charmanten Steel-Drum Calypso-Rhythmus sollte man zusammen mit Luftmatratze, braunem Rum und einer Hand voll Chicas im Arm im karibischen Meer genießen.
Inmitten des schon gewohnten Klamauks und chaotischen Nonsens' (z.B. "Stroker Ace"), findet sich auf Ween-Scheiben immer mindestens ein Juwel von einem Popsong. Auf "White Pepper" ist dies "Stay Forever". Ausnahmsweise handelt es sich hier um einen sehr poetischen und ernst zu nehmenden Lovesong, der schon ein gewisses Trucker-Fernweh aufkommen läßt. Der dürfte es mit seinen Steel-Guitars sogar in die amerikanischen Country-Charts schaffen. Ihre Nähe zum "Amerikanischen Schlager" haben Ween ja früher schon mit "12 Golden Country Greats" bewiesen.
