Though he’s been a star in his native Ethiopia since his recording debut in 1972, vocalist Mahmoud Ahmed has only recently come to the attention of Western audiences thanks to Buda Musique’s archival ETHIOPIQUES series. The second volume in the AIT Records BEST OF MAHMOUD AHMED series features contemporary re-recordings of some of Ahmed’s finest work, including the langorous Tezeta ballad “Tizita Garedew” and the ferocious, funk-inflected “Mela Mela”.
