2015 kam der spanisch-deutsche Popsänger Alvaro Soler mit den Singles "El mismo sol" und "Sofia" und seinem dazugehörigen Album Eterno agosto weltweit in die Charts, in Italien und der Schweiz erreichte er sogar Platz 1. Drei Jahre später präsentiert er mit Mar de Colores einen Nachfolger. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Songwritern Alexander Zuckowski und Simon Triebel, die schon den Vorgänger betreuten, setzt Soler wieder auf sonnige Popsongs, die mit Worldbeat-Flair, eingängigen Melodien und optimistischem Blick Sommerstimmung verbreiten - nachzuhören unter anderem auf der Single "La cintura", die in Deutschland auf Platz 7 kam. Das Album selbst schaffte es auf Platz 8.
