Sonora Ponceña, always a tight, fresh avant-mainstream group, has arguably become one of the great bands. With this release they're adding things around the edges -- an effective touch of soul, an entirely out-of-idiom piano intro, a gravely beautiful bowed-bass break, and all sorts of other unexpected doings. All of which makes the title a little more substantial than such slogans usually are.
