Das Testament. Das letzte Kapitel. Abbey Road, das im September 1969 erscheint, ist die letzte richtige Episode in der Diskographie der Beatles. Let It Be, das zwar später, nämlich im Mai 1970, veröffentlicht wird, war aber schon vorher aufgenommen worden. Ein Abschied, der in der Kunst seiner Kompositionen, seiner Melodien und seinen ausgewogenen Harmonien kaum perfekter sein könnte. Wieder einmal bietet auch dieses Album ein breites musikalisches Spektrum – von überwältigenden Balladen bis hin zu Songs mit imposanten Percussions (Come Together). Auch hinter Abbey Road ist es vor allem wieder einmal der Einfluss des genialen Zweigespanns Lennon / McCartney herauszuhören, wobei nicht vergessen werden sollte, dass auch George (Here Comes The Sun) und Ringo (Octopus Garden) nicht nur eine Nebenrolle spielen... Dieses Meisterwerk und sein Erfolg verhindern jedoch nicht die unausweichliche Scheidung der Fab Four, die im April 1970 offiziell wurde. Bleibt zu erwähnen, dass die vielleicht einflussreichste Band der Welt nicht länger als sieben Jahre gemeinsam im Tonstudio verbrachte. © MZ / Qobuz
