In a perfect world this record would never have happened, but it did, and at the height of Roger Miller's popularity, too. Was there a suspicion he wasn't a complete enough artist in his own right and had to project a leading man side as well, by sticking to a program of mushy romantic ballads? Of course the concept would have been brilliant if Miller had been knocking the wind out of this material á la Spike Jones or Homer and Jethro. Nay, these are serious runs at a list whose contents need not be itemized once it is revealed that the noxious "Honey" is amongst the titles. The real shame is that Miller wrote a lot of beautiful romantic songs of his own which could have been utilized for this album to much better effect. Pretty nice version of "Dear Heart," though bear in mind this is a Miller fanatic panning for gold dust in a muddy stream.
