The Rank Deluxe
Drawing from punk and reggae influences, indie rock group the Rank Deluxe shot to fame soon after coming together in 2005. Co-founders Lewis Dyer (vocals/guitar) and Richard Buchanan (vocals/guitar) first met in Thamesmead, U.K., and formed a band called the Method. After losing several members, Dyer and Buchanan auditioned for a drummer and bassist and picked up Chris Ballard (drums) and John Wellis (bass). The group released three singles in 2006 and quickly caught the attention of NME, Uncut, and Xfm DJ John Kennedy. After touring the U.K. and playing shows in Budapest, Hungary, the Rank Deluxe made their American debut at CMJ. In early 2008, the group released the single "Tightrope"; their full-length debut was scheduled for release the same year.
