Like Rats

A punishing extreme metal quintet from Chicago, Illinois, Like Rats is the death metal /metalcore alter-ego of Windy City power-violence/grindcore horde Weekend Nachos (guitarists Todd Nief and John Regan, vocalist Dan Polak, bassist Andy Nelson and drummer Drew Brown). Citing influences such as Obituary, Death, and Entombed, as well as contemporary blood-spatter specialists including NAILS, Black Breath, and Dead in the Dirt, Like Rats issued a pair of eponymous demos in 2009 and 2010 before taking time off from Weekend Nachos to issue an eponymously-titled debut album in 2012 via A389 Recordings. After inking a deal with Southern Lord, the band headed back into the studio to begin work on their sophomore long player. The resulting II saw the light of day in early 2016. Between touring as Like Rats and Weekend Nachos over the next three years, Like Rats contented themselves with writing new material. In late 2019, they cut a deal with the Hibernation label, and re-entered the studio to emerge with the self-produced digital only release Death Monolith in April of 2020.
