La Joaqui

La Joaqui is the stage name of Joaquinha Lerena De La Riva, an Argentine singer-songwriter and actress who performs in the Latin urban genre. Born on October 24, 1994, in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, she spent her childhood in Costa Rica before returning to her native country during her teenage years. She developed an interest in music at the age of 18 and, a few years later, became the first woman to reach the semifinals of Red Bull's Batalla de Gallos freestyle rap tournament. Even though she made her official debut with the single "Perdón Mamá Por Mi Vida Loca" in 2013, it wasn't until 2017 that she rose to prominence with the song "Ay Papi" featuring Cazzu. The following year, she made her acting debut in the TV series El Marginal. In 2019, La Joaqui released her studio debut, the trap-tinged Harakiri, followed by the live album The White Room a year later. "Lassie," an infectious Latin urban track featuring L-Gante, saw the light in 2021 and became her first charting single by peaking at Number 54 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100. Released in 2022, "Butakera," her collaboration with El Noba and DJ Alan Gómez, finally cemented her reputation as one of the leading exponents of the urban genre in Argentina, cracking the Top 10 of the Argentine Hot 100 and entering the charts in Uruguay and Paraguay. Its follow-up singles, "Dos Besitos" (2022) and "Muñecas" (2023) with Tini and Steve Aoki, fared even better, hitting Number 4 and 3 in Argentina, respectively. Barbie Copiloto, her first EP, was released in 2023 and received a nomination for Best Urban Music Album at the Gardel Awards.
