Gerardo Coronel

Gerardo Coronel is a corrido and alterna movimiento singer/songwriter who first made his mark at the age of 14 with the song "El Guerrero." He is also the author of the hit corrido "La Tacoma," recorded by Alfredo "El Kommander" Rios, as well as Julian Mercado and El Bebeto. Coronel was born in 1996 in Apatzingán Michoacán. At 12 his family moved to Culiacan, and he was already writing his own songs. After composing "El Guerro," he was invited to join a local band in Sinaloa, but left after two years to pursue his own career. His videos attracted the attention of Twiins Music, which signed the young artist. The label issued the digital singles "Te Quiero a Morir" and "No Era Penal," and released his 20-track debut album, Historias de un Coronel, which raced up the digital charts after the success of its lead-off single "Inevitable" and its video, which garnered over a million views on YouTube in its first month. The label spent 2015 promoting the album by issuing numerous tracks on various corrido compilations and by putting Coronel on the road, not only in Northern Mexico but in the American Southwest, where "Inevitable" was added to the playlists of many radio stations. To celebrate his success north of the border, the live En Vivo Desde Los Angeles album followed that year. Coronel issued the Joey Balderrama-directed video for "Soy Poco Malo" in early 2017; he was backed on the cut by Banda La Fantastica. The track ran up the video charts as the pre-release single for his second studio album, El Jerry, issued later in the year.
