Chuck Strong
b. c. 1962, Selma, Alabama, USA. Strong’s first professional work came as a member of the Oasis Band in his home town. He then sang with Bobby Moore And The Rhythm Aces and soon afterwards made his own-name recording debut with 1986’s Love Don’t Change Over Night. During the next few years, Strong released more albums, gradually developing into an effective soft soul blues singer. Over these years he released some singles including ‘She’s Not The Cheating Kind’, ‘You Made A Change In Me’, ‘She’s Got Papers On Me’ and ‘I’m In Need Of A Good Woman’, which made only a limited impact. He did better with ‘Rock That Man In The Boat’, the lead track on 2004’s Let’s Get Back Together and one of the best examples of his work. With Winston Williams, he co-wrote ‘You Left A Goldmine For A Golddigger’, which was covered by Little Milton, while another of his songs, ‘Don’t Make Me Choose’, was also recorded by Tyrone Davis, who has been a considerable influence on Strong.
Smoothing out the grit that is in the best soul music, Strong has broadened his appeal while losing the affections of some hardcore fans of the form. His success continued into the early 00s, at which time he recorded several songs composed by Rich Cason.
