Carolyn Breuer
b. 4 July 1969, Munich, Germany. Raised in a musical atmosphere, Breuer began piano lessons at the age of seven, switching to alto saxophone at 12. She studied saxophone classically but from the age of 15 was encouraged to pay attention to jazz by her piano-and trombone-playing father, Hermann Breuer. In 1988 she began studying at a music conservatory in Hilversum, the Netherlands. She recorded with her father in the early 90s on A Family Affair, and also teamed up with singer Fee Claassen. As well as leading her own bands, she plays with Five Up High, Cees Slinger, and has accompanied the German singer Silvia Droste. Technically accomplished, Breuer brings a passionate intensity to her playing and is clearly a talent to watch and listen for in the 21st century. Breuer launched her own NotNowMom! Records label in 2000.
