Jessica Sooyoun Jung, also known as Jessica Jung or simply Jessica, was born on April 18, 1989, in San Francisco, California. She is a Korean-American artist known for her roles as a singer-songwriter, actress, author, fashion designer, and businesswoman. She gained fame as a member of the popular South Korean girl group Girls' Generation, and later for her solo career. Her journey into the entertainment industry began during a family vacation in South Korea, where she and her sister Krystal were scouted in a shopping mall by SM Entertainment in 2000. After seven years of training, Jessica debuted with Girls' Generation in 2007. The group quickly rose to fame, with Jessica contributing to their success through her vocal talents. She also delved into acting, starring as Elle Woods in the Korean version of the musical Legally Blonde in 2010 and appearing in the drama Wild Romance in 2012. In August 2014, she branched out into fashion with her brand Blanc & Eclare. In 2015, she left Girls' Generation as well as SM Entertainment. The following year, Jessica signed with Coridel Entertainment and released her debut EP With Love, J (2016), which topped the Circle Albums chart. This was followed by another chart-topping effort, Wonderland (2016), and My Decade (2017), with each EP further refining her particular sound. She expanded her reach in 2018 by signing with United Talent Agency. Jessica also authored the best-selling novel Shine, which was released in 2020. In 2022, she participated in the reality show Sisters Who Make Waves, placing second in the final. Jessica issued her fourth EP titled BEEP BEEP in 2023, peaking at number 6 in South Korea.
