People Get Ready: The Best of Curtis Mayfield with the Impressions covers the group's ABC years, from 1961 through 1968. All of the significant singles from the era are here, including the Top Ten U.S. R&B singles "Gypsy Woman," "It's All Right," "People Get Ready," "Woman's Got Soul," and "We're a Winner." Casual fans will probably look to get later Mayfield-era Impressions hits such as "Fool for You," "I Loved and I Lost," "This Is My Country, and "Choice of Colors," but those were issued on Curtom rather than on ABC. Ultimate Collection, released on Hip-O in 2001, also has its faults, but it does anthologize the ABC and Curtom hits.
