Mit Kool & The Gang begann alles 1964 in der Lincoln Highschool in New Jersey. Als die Brüder Robert und Ronald Bell ihre Klassenkameraden überredeten in ihre Band namens Jazziacs einzusteigen, konnten sie noch nicht erahnen, dass sie eines Tages 80 Millionen Alben verkaufen würden...
Nach den Anfängen im Jazz wurde die Band zu der Referenz der Disco-Ära schlechthin und ihre Songs werden heute noch von zahlreichen Musikern als Samples verwendet. Ihr souliger Funk erreichte mit den Alben Ladies' Night (1979), Celebrate! (1980), and Emergency (1984) einen Höhepunkt.
Nachdem der Leadsänger James "J.T." Taylor die Jungs 1988 verließ, ebbten ihre Produktionen ab, jedoch schwebten sie weiter auf ihren Erfolgen der vergangenen Jahre und verbreiteten ihren Disco-Funk-Sound in der Welt. Songs wie "Celebration", "Ladies Night" oder "Get Down On It" sind seit Kool & The Gang von keiner Party mehr wegzudenken!
