Emilie Simon ist mit der Musik aufgewachsen, und die Musik ist auch mit ihr aufgewachsen. Als Tochter eines Toningenieurs trat sie im Alter von sieben Jahren in das Konservatorium von Montpellier ein. Sie nahm regelmäßig an Praktika am IRCAM teil und hat einen Masterabschluss in Musikwissenschaft. 2003 veröffentlichte sie ihr erstes Album, das weit entfernt von den Codes des französischen Chansons die Grundlagen für ein musikalisches Universum an der Schnittstelle zwischen Pop und Elektronik legte, das keinem anderen gleicht, auch wenn man den Einfluss von Björk und Kate Bush erkennen kann. In den folgenden Jahren machte sie sich mit dem Soundtrack zum Film "La Marche de l'Empereur", ihrem Konzeptalbum Végétal und dem amerikanischen Album The Big Machine auch auf internationaler Ebene einen Namen. In den 2010er Jahren kehrte sie mit Mue (2014), seinem ersten Album, das fast ausschließlich in ihrer Muttersprache vorgetragen wurde, zu ihren französischen Wurzeln zurück. Dem vorausgegangen war Franky Knight (2011), von dem ein großer Teil als Soundtrack für den Film "La Délicatesse" von Stéphane und David Foenkinos diente. Nach sechs Jahren Abwesenheit kehrte sie 2020 mit der Musik zu "The Jesus Rolls", dem Spin-off der Komödie "The Big Lebowski" unter der Regie und mit John Turturro als Hauptdarsteller, ins Kino zurück, wo sie erneut eine völlig andere Klangwelt erkundete, die von Gypsy-Musik und Flamenco geprägt war. Mars on Earth 2020, eine EP, die während des Lockdowns aufgenommen wurde, folgte im selben Jahr. "Mein Letztes ist auch mein Erstes", sagt sie heute und lädt uns ein, ihr erstes Album wiederzuentdecken, das anlässlich seines zwanzigjährigen Jubiläums völlig neu aufgelegt wurde. Heute ist sie mit ihrem ersten "richtigen" Studioalbum seit 10 Jahren zurück, Polaris, das die Abenteuer ihrer imaginären Heldin Lily Mercier verfolgt, die wir bei der Veröffentlichung ihrer EP und ihrer fantastischen Halloween-Erzählung Phoenix entdeckt haben.
