Gregory Abbott's best-of collection, Super Hits, is somewhat misleadingly named, since his only true "super hit" was his definitive, platinum-selling single "Shake You Down." Despite failing to have similar chart success with his subsequent efforts, this collection reaffirms how consistent his work is. Songs like "I Got the Feelin' (It's Over)," "Magic," and "Say You Will" also come from Shake You Down and share the '60s-soul-meets-'80s-technology vibe of the album's title track. While some of the synths and drum programs could sound a little cold and dated on their own, Abbott's warm voice and emotive falsetto lend an interesting contrast. "I'll Prove It to You," "Runaway," and "Prisoner" have a warmer, richer take on Abbott's signature sound, also evinced on more recent tracks such as "Two of a Kind" and "Unfninished Business." While Super Hits is a little short at ten songs, they are undoubtedly ten of the best from the first part of Abbott's career.
