Bronx rapper Ice Spice started rapping in 2021 and had a viral hit, co-signs from Drake, and a major-label contract a year later. The combination of hard drill beats, larger-than-life bravado, and just enough hooks to keep things in the realm of pop all clicked perfectly on breakthrough single "Munch (Feelin' U)," and Ice Spice's star presence carried her further into the mainstream. The issue for an artist entering the big leagues so freshly into their career is repeating that winning combination and expanding on it enough to not be forgotten just as quickly as they blew up. Ice Spice's debut EP, Like..?, takes steps in the right direction, giving fans something to latch onto by collecting three of her best-loved previously released singles and filling it out with three new songs. The sinister attitude and deep, minimal beat of "Munch (Feelin' U)" is undeniably cool, and its 1:44 runtime makes it infinitely replayable. "In Ha Mood" throws some ethereal vocal samples into the mix, as does the almost feel-good instrumental of "Actin a Smoochie." At this point in her career, however, the six, mostly previously released and all extremely similar-sounding tracks on Like..? represent the lion's share of Ice Spice's output. While fun at times, the 13 minutes of music here sounds largely like it's trying to recapture the excitement and effortless appeal of the biggest hit, and becomes harder to pay attention to as the same few ideas are turned over repeatedly. As it boils down, Like..? presents a new artist finding their voice, showing promise in some moments, and losing traction in others.
