In late 2001, Live Element's "Be Free" became somewhat of an ode to American ideology in the wake of the September 11th World Trade Center tragedy. The New York dance label Strictly Rhythm wasn't ashamed to market the track as just that, either -- the CD single arrived in stores emblazed with the image of a rippled American flag set against a white background. Strictly Rhythm also released the track -- which samples Belinda Carlisle's "Live Your Life Be Free" -- with a few remixes by Robbie Rivera. The remixes aren't much of a departure from the original version, which itself isn't much of a departure from the classic Strictly Rhythm sound -- a reverb-drenched and time-stretched vocal sample looped over a straightforward house track. However, given the reach-for-the-sky feeling Live Element give to Carlisle's voice, this is a very powerful track if spun properly by a DJ. It's definitely a peak-hour track, and it's not something you'd want to leave in the mix for more than a few minutes, given its excess.
