The Wedding Present sind wahrscheinlich nicht so "Indie" wie sie scheinen. Die Band, die 1985 in Leeds von David Gedge gegründet wurde, teilt sich ein überraschendes Album mit... Elvis Presley! Jenes, das die höchsten Anzahl von Singles pro Jahr in den britischen Top 40 platzierte, nachdem 1992 einen Track pro Monat dieses Werks veröffentlicht wurde. Das Album wurde damals klugerweise "Hit Parade" genannt. Genährt von der Musik von The Fall, Buzzcocks und Gang of Four erlebten The Wedding Present in den ersten zehn Jahren ihres Bestehens eine goldene Ära und unterschrieben Anfang der 90er Jahre sogar bei RCA für die Veröffentlichung ihrer legendären Alben "Bizarro" und "Seamonsters". Obwohl nur noch David Gedge mit von der Partie ist, begleitet von einer Band, die sich im Laufe ihrer zahlreichen Tourneen verändert hat, haben es The Wedding Present geschafft, sich eine eigene Identität in der britischen alternativen Musikszene zu bewahren. Wahre musikalische Handwerker!
