Formed in 2001 in Almeirim, Portugal, WAKO -- or, for those in the know, We Are Killing Ourselves -- would make waves quickly, recording a demo in 2002 (entitled Outrage) and an EP in 2004 (entitled Symbiotic Existence) in addition to more than 150 gigs that helped the band land a deal with Casket Music in 2007. Debut album Deconstructive Essence, released on the aforementioned label, saw the light of day in August of that same year. The band (Nuno Rodrigues, vocals; Filipe Lima, guitar; Joao Pedro, guitar; Fred Carmelo, bass; and Arlindo Cardoso, drums) spent the months after their album's release promoting it the old-fashioned way: touring Europe and the United Kingdom.
