In the late '80s, salsa slowed in productivity and sales to give way to the merengue craze that still reigns supreme for the conformist dancer. Nonetheless, the Fania label kept issuing great material and recordings, even when they were a bit lackadaisical in the promotion of these releases. The Master still kept Miranda's career afloat. "Así Es la Gente" and "Ayer" (written by the superb songwriter José Nogueras) were the better-known tunes. The Fania music machine turns in a professional effort; the early '80s still managed to produce interesting salsa efforts, despite great indifference by the media.
