The first album of Rita Lee after A marca da Zorra (1995), Santa Rita de Sampa is her 26th. solo release. With the video clip for "Obrigado, não" arising considerable polemic (it shows two military in uniform kissing each other in the mouth) pumping the song intensely in the radios, the album (in which she canonized herself as "Santa", saint) brings polemic defenses: at the same time she condemns drugs (intensely present in her past life), and defends the liberation of marijuana use; as implied in that video clip, defends the homosexual marriage; and abortion. Also criticizes the dogmatism and commercialization of faith in "Jardim de Allah." The album also brings back the partnership with her husband Roberto de Carvalho. The acoustic pop ballad "Longe daqui" also is having good airing. Musically, the album dwells in the mainstream pop/rock area, with rock ("Ando jururu" has the Raimundos), acoustic and electric pop ballads, samba ("Tum tum," which has Guinga at the violão - he was included in the lyrics), and even Carnival march ("Dona doida").
