"Jewel Of The Summertime": Ein rhythmischer Roh-Diamant und die Faust, die ihn hält, in der Steckdose. Punkt. Andere gähnen bei Morellos Ankündigung "Big hard rock record with a funky bottom". Ignoranten. Denn krachende Drums, verzerrte Saiteninstrumente, trockene Live-Aggression und Cornells Rockposen zeigen eines - so klingt nur das Original.

Dass optimistische US-Balladen wie "Until We Fall" den harten Attacken dazwischen funken, kennt man. Was bei RATM unmöglich war, geht mit Audioslave. Nicht zuletzt, um zu beweisen, dass Cornells Röhre auch anders kann. "Until We Fall" enthält schöne knappe Gitarrensoli, kommt aber nicht ganz an Audioslaves beste Ballade "Like A Stone" heran.

Ansonsten preschen der Titeltrack ("Revelations") oder die schnellere Single ("Original Fire") nach vorne. Audioslaves dritter Platte hört man die zahllosen Gigs im Vorfeld der Studioarbeit an. Da regiert die Spiellaune, da wird Druck gemacht, der Griff des meist schwer groovenden Midtempos nur selten gelockert und das Energielevel oben gehalten.

Mit "Wide Awake" zeigt sich die Band gar von einer explizit politischen Seite: Cornell behandelt das Versagen der Bush-Administration im Angesicht des Hurrikans Katrina. Aufhorchen lassen zuweilen auch kurze, klare Refrain-Chöre ("One And The Same" oder das mit lässiger Basslinie versehene "Broken City", das einem Hardrock-Act auch vor 25 Jahren gut zu Gesicht gestanden hätte).

"Somedays" wird zuweilen mit Percussions unterlegt und Refrains wie diejenigen von "Sound Of A Gun" verweisen immer wieder darauf, aus welchen beiden Quellen sich die Combo speißt. Audioslave langen auf "Revelations" nicht nur in die Funk-Steckdose, sondern gebärden sich als verdammtes Starkstromkabel. Unverwechselbar. Punkt.
