At first the concept of this band of Durango expatriates relocating themselves from the airy Mexican mountains to the hot-in-summer, freezing-in-winter, windy-all-year-round environs of Chicago would appear to be somewhat counter-intuitive. But you can bet no one will raise an eyebrow once the band's delectable mixture of homespun rhythms and big-city production invades the airwaves.
Grupo Montez De Durango reinterprets the Durango-Tejano melodies of their homeland in a way that updates the music's original style while preserving its essential flavor in tracks such as "Colonia Hidalgo, Durango Querido," and "Hoy Empieza Mi Tristeza." The album-opening "Lagrimas De Cristal" and "En Otros Tiempos" are both typical of the band's unique mix of energy and sentimentality. Arriba Durango!
