Kazuya Yoshii
Kazuya Yoshii (October 8, 1966) is a Japanese singer-songwriter who began his music career as the frontman for the rock band The Yellow Monkey. After playing bass in the band Urgh Police, he formed The Yellow Monkey in 1988 with Youichi Hirose and brothers Eiji and Hideaki Kikuchi. The group released three consecutive Number 1 albums and 17 Top 10 singles before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2001. “Tali,” his debut single as a solo artist, arrived in 2003 under the pseudonym Yoshii Lovinson, followed by his studio debut At the Black Hole (2004) and White Room (2005), both of which reached the Top 5 of the Oricon charts. In 2006, he went back to his old name and released the album 39108, which bowed at Number 2 on the Japanese charts. Following the staggering success of the albums Hummingbird in Forest of Space (2007) and Volt (2009), Kazuya Yoshii finally scored his first Number 1 record with the full-length The Apples in 2011. In the subsequent years, he released the album Starlight (2015) and reformed The Yellow Monkey, who returned to the scene with the album 9999 in 2019. A single titled “Mirai No Uta” was issued in 2021, entering the Japanese Top 200 at Number 160.
