Joi Chua, also known as Joi Tsai, is a Singaporean pop singer who gained recognition in the Mandopop genre. Born on August 3, 1978 in Singapore, she entered the music industry in 1996 through the Extraordinary Singers Course organized by Ocean Butterflies Production Company. Selected out of 2000 candidates during the premiere audition, she became a trainee singer under the label, however faced challenges when her debut album, Joi (2000), did not perform well in Taiwan or her homeland. Making a comeback a few years later with the release of Sunrise in 2004, one of the best-selling Singaporean albums of that year thanks to the hit song "Watching the Sunrise With Me" , Chua’s subsequent albums, One Day I Will (2005) and Waiting for a Sunny Day (2006) also achieved similar acclaim, with 2007 album Blessed Joy (2007), earning her a nomination for Best Female Vocalist at the prestigious Golden Melody Awards. After taking home the Best Asia-Pacific Vocalist award at the Original Chinese Music Awards for her 2010 album Back to Basics (《回到最初》), Chua established her own music label, Joi Music two years later, simultaneously releasing her EP, Perspectives and expanding her presence in China by performing at the CCTV annual show Mid-Autumn Festival Gala Evening in 2007, 2008, and 2014. Chua's notable achievements continued in 2015 when she was awarded the Best Theme Song award at the 2015 Star Awards for the song "The Journey" (信。约) from Chinese television drama: The Journey: Tumultuous Times, which she recorded with Kelvin Tan. In 2017, she released her album 我是我 (I am me), featuring popular single "旁觀者" (Onlooker) with Chua's 2006 hit "爱如潮水" (Love is Like Tide Water) making a resurgence on the Chinese charts in 2023, entering at number 67.
