S’il est bien un album de Kiss qui méritait que l’on fête son anniversaire en mettant les petits plats dans les grands, c’est assurément Creatures of the Night. Bien plus heavy que la majorité de la discographie du groupe, cet opus est au fil des années devenu le chouchou de bien des fans, avec ses titres parfois très méchants (Rock and Roll Hell, War Machine), ses gros riffs, et son son de batterie d’une lourdeur sans pareille. Le remastering 2022 de l’album originel présent sur le premier disque de ce coffret rend parfaitement honneur à ces neuf titres dont aucun n’a voulu jouer le rôle du « morceau de trop ».
Sur les second et troisième CD, ce n’est plus un anniversaire, c’est Noël : pas moins de 34 enregistrements, souvent à l’état de démos, et pour la plupart inédits. On y découvre notamment l’excellent et groovy Feel Like Heaven chanté par un Gene Simmons en grande forme, un Tell It to a Fool chaloupé en version basse/batterie, des versions instrumentales qui feront merveille à votre prochain karaoké, une version inédite de Not for the Innocent sur laquelle Simmons et Paul Stanley se partagent le chant, des prises alternatives de différents morceaux de l’album… Un vrai régal pour les collectionneurs, et une occasion supplémentaire – si besoin était – de regretter la perte prématurée du fantastique Eric Carr, indubitablement le meilleur batteur que Kiss ait abrité au cours de sa carrière.
Les CD 4 et 5 regroupent des titres live enregistrés dans plusieurs villes américaines au cours de la tournée Creatures of the Night, ainsi qu’une curiosité amusante : les effets sonores que le groupe utilisait sur ce tour (vent, flammes, sirène etc.). Pas de première nécessité, certes, mais un document d’un autre âge où tout était déclenché… sur bandes ! En bref, cette version bien plus que roborative est un festin qui permet de se replonger avec bonheur dans l’album le plus méchant des superhéros (à armes égales avec le Revenge de 1992). © Charlélie Arnaud/Qobuz

S’il est bien un album de Kiss qui méritait que l’on fête son anniversaire en mettant les petits plats dans les grands, c’est assurément Creatures of the Night. Bien plus heavy que la majorité de la discographie du groupe, cet opus est au fil des années devenu le chouchou de bien des fans, avec ses titres parfois très méchants (Rock and Roll Hell, War Machine), ses gros riffs, et son son de batterie d’une lourdeur sans pareille. Le remastering 2022 de l’album originel présent sur le premier disque de ce coffret rend parfaitement honneur à ces neuf titres dont aucun n’a voulu jouer le rôle du « morceau de trop ».
Sur les second et troisième CD, ce n’est plus un anniversaire, c’est Noël : pas moins de 34 enregistrements, souvent à l’état de démos, et pour la plupart inédits. On y découvre notamment l’excellent et groovy Feel Like Heaven chanté par un Gene Simmons en grande forme, un Tell It to a Fool chaloupé en version basse/batterie, des versions instrumentales qui feront merveille à votre prochain karaoké, une version inédite de Not for the Innocent sur laquelle Simmons et Paul Stanley se partagent le chant, des prises alternatives de différents morceaux de l’album… Un vrai régal pour les collectionneurs, et une occasion supplémentaire – si besoin était – de regretter la perte prématurée du fantastique Eric Carr, indubitablement le meilleur batteur que Kiss ait abrité au cours de sa carrière.
Les CD 4 et 5 regroupent des titres live enregistrés dans plusieurs villes américaines au cours de la tournée Creatures of the Night, ainsi qu’une curiosité amusante : les effets sonores que le groupe utilisait sur ce tour (vent, flammes, sirène etc.). Pas de première nécessité, certes, mais un document d’un autre âge où tout était déclenché… sur bandes ! En bref, cette version bien plus que roborative est un festin qui permet de se replonger avec bonheur dans l’album le plus méchant des superhéros (à armes égales avec le Revenge de 1992). © Charlélie Arnaud/Qobuz
