Avec la participations d’artistes comme Lester Young, Jimmy Rushing, Illinois Jacquet ou Roy Eldridge, la troupe de Count Basie se montre particulièrement en forme, notamment sur des morceaux comme « Swingin’ at Newport », « Blee Bop Blues » ou « Roll’em Pete ». Ca remue, ça danse et c’est souvent d’une grande beauté : de quoi se réconcilier les plus réfractaires avec le jazz.
