The Fireworks
U.K.-based noise pop band the Fireworks were formed in 2011 when Matthew (of Big Pink Cake, an indie pop dance night) began singing songs over the phone to his friends during conversations. They convinced him to turn it into something more tangible, he agreed, and soon his friends Emma from the Pocketbooks, Isabel from Things in Herds, and Carys of the Give It Ups joined up on vocals, bass, and drums, respectively. Inspired by the thrilling rush of melody and noise found on records by bands like early My Bloody Valentine, the Flatmates, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, the group began playing live right away, performing at festivals like Indietracks, recording a session for Dandelion Radio, and beginning work on an EP. After recording sessions were complete, Carys left the band and Shaun from the Wedding Present took over on drums. The Fireworks' self-titled debut EP was released in early 2013 by Shelflife. After playing gigs around the world and recording sessions with producers David Holmes and Simon Trought (Allo Darlin, Comet Gain), the band released their debut album, Switch Me On, for Shelflife in early 2015.
