Sara
Sara is an alternative metal band from Finland that broke through to mainstream commercial success in 2006 after signing to a major label. Founded in the mid-'90s in Kaskinen, a small town on the western coast of Finland, the band was originally comprised of Joa Korhonen (vocals, guitar), Antti Tuomivirta (guitar), Tommi Koivikko (guitar), Kristian Udd (bass), and Eetu Uusitalo (drums). From 2001 to 2005, Niko Leminen was the band's drummer, followed by Andreas Bäcklund. Influenced by alternative metal bands such as Tool and Nine Inch Nails, along with lesser known alternative rock bands such as Mew and Kent, Sara made their full-length album debut in 2000 with Narupatsaat. A couple more albums followed, namely Kromi (2002) and Saattue (2003), before Sara was offered a major-label recording contract with Universal. The band's three independent releases were later reissued by the label Kraklund in 2007. Sara's major-label debut album, He Kutsuivat Luokseen (2006), was a breakthrough success, charting at number 12 on the Finnish albums chart and spawning the Top Five hit single "Momentum." The follow-up album Veden Äärelle (2008) was similarly successful, charting within the Top Ten of the albums chart.
