Mockart

mockART isn't just a band; it's an avant-garde venture founded by visual artist rabirius that delves into the uncharted territories of music and sound. The project's essence lies in breaking away from established musical norms, seeking new paths and unconventional expressions.

The Origins:
The genesis of mockART traces back to the early 2000s when rabirius, armed with a mobile phone's poor camera producing abstract, artistically intriguing photos, coined the term "mockART." Rejecting the notion that art stems from machines, this label represented the artist's deliberate intention in creating.

A Musical Journey Unfolds:
rabirius had his share of experiences playing electric and bass guitar in multiple bands, yet the music often fell victim to conflicting egos, impeding the creative process. A realization struck when he departed from a band where he felt detached from the music's essence - the decision to embark on a solo musical expedition.

The Birth of mockART:
In 2005, armed with a digital audio workstation, rabirius began experimenting with electronic music, samples, and unconventional sounds, birthing mockART. The project took form in the recording of fifteen one-minute tracks for a project with Zan Hoffman.

The Evolution:
2006 marked the release of the first mockART album, 'Reflux Ux Bisou,' followed by 'ION' in 2008, a split CD with Drén in Slovakia. The project ventured into innovative territories in 2009 with 'Country Songs,' integrating vocal samples from diverse musicians.

Temporary Hiatus and Revival:
Transitioning focus to photography and digital art in 2009 briefly paused mockART. However, the project was reignited in 2018 with the creation of 'Living with Human Machines.' 'Reflux Ux Bisou' and 'ION' were remastered and re-released in 2018, followed by the completion and publication of 'Country Songs' a year later.

A Duo Emerges:
The pivotal year 2020 saw the inclusion of classically trained avant-garde flutist Christoph Dorner, transforming mockART into a duo. The global pandemic demanded a shift in music-making techniques, leading to contactless collaborations for their first album together, 'Men Who Lost Their Heads,' released in 2021. Thematically tied to pandemic-related conspiracy myths, the album echoed the tumultuous times.

The Unfolding Present:
Continuing their artistic journey, mockART released 'views | interrupted' in 2022, a project parallel to an art exhibition involving rabirius, Sonja Ackermann, and Christian Rocas. This album, solely crafted by Christoph and rabirius, prompted the duo to explore alternate renditions with guest musicians, culminating in their release 'views | remixed.

mockART persists as a musical experiment, constantly evolving, embracing collaborations, and challenging the boundaries of sound and structure.
