Glass Tiger
Canadian rockers Glass Tiger found mainstream success in 1986 with the release of their quadruple platinum-selling debut The Thin Red Line. Built on a sturdy foundation of anthemic, new wave-tinged pop/rock, the LP included the band's signature hits, "Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)" and "Someday." Glass Tiger issued two more studio efforts before going on hiatus in 1993. Reforming as a touring act in 2003, the group issued their long-awaited fourth long-player, 31, in 2018, followed by the 33 EP in 2019 and the Christmas LP Songs for a Winter Night in 2020.
Initially operating under the moniker Tokyo, Newmarket, Ontario's Glass Tiger formed in 1983 around the talents of vocalist Alan Frew, bassist Wayne Parker, keyboardist Sam Reid, drummer Michael Hanson, and guitarist Al Connelly. The band's Capitol Records debut, 1986's The Thin Red Line, would become the fastest-selling debut in Canadian history, spawning five hit singles, including the international smash " Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)," which deftly utilized fellow Canadian Bryan Adams' distinctive voice in the chorus. The LP earned the band a trio of Juno Awards and a pair of Grammy nominations. 1988's Diamond Sun was certified triple platinum in Canada on the strength of the title cut and the number two-charting "I'm Still Searching." It also marked the departure of drummer Michael Hanson, leaving Connelly, Frew, Parker, and Reid to steer the ship. Released in 1991, Simple Mission included the U.K.-charting single "My Town," which saw Frew sharing lead vocals with rock icon Rod Stewart.
The band went on hiatus in 1993 but reunited a decade later as a touring entity with the addition of drummer Christopher McNeil. They celebrated 31 years of making music together with the release of 2018's 31, which was produced by Johnny Reid and included guest appearances by Julian Lennon and Alan Doyle. 33, Glass Tiger's fifth studio effort, appeared the following year and in 2022 they released the star-studded holiday LP, Songs for a Winter's Night, which included seasonal favorites, originals, and a cover of the Gordon Lightfoot-penned title cut.
