Charles Brauer

Charles Knetschke (July 3, 1935), better known as Charles Brauer, is one of the most famous German actors of his generation. With a career that encompasses over 70 years of acting, he is mostly recognized for playing Commissioner Peter Brockmöller on the crime drama Tatort. Charles Brauer made his official acting debut at the age of 11 in the post-war film Irgendwo in Berlin (1946) and then went on to study at the Max Reinhardt School for Drama. In 1954, he began training under Gustaf Gründgens at Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus. At the age of 25, Charles Brauer landed his first iconic role as Heinz Schölermann on the Familie Schölermann TV series. In 1964, he took part in the recording of one of Karl May’s first novels, Der Schut. His voice acting career continued on the crime series FBI (1965), Krakatoa - The Greatest Adventure of the Last Century (1969), and The Great Train Heist (1979). From 1986 to 2001, Charles Brauer featured on the highly popular crime series Tatort alongside Manfred Krug, which spawned several soundtrack compilations and the audiobook “Voll auf Hass,” released in 2007. In subsequent years, he fully devoted himself to theather, starring in the plays The Cat on the Hot Tin Roof (2007-2008), Mourning Electra (2009), and Tartuffe (2012-2013).
