Alice Piérot
Baroque violinist Alice Piérot is an important figure on the French early music scene, playing in several top ensembles and also performing and recording as a soloist. She is also a significant educator and an innovative musical entrepreneur.
Piérot attended the Conservatoire de Lyon, and her interest in the historically informed performances of Baroque music grew during the 1980s. In 1988, she became the concertmaster of the orchestra Les Musiciens du Louvre under conductor Marc Minkowski, often appearing in performances and recordings of Baroque opera. With violist Fanny Paccoud and cellist Elena Andreyev, she co-founded the string trio Anpapié in 2002. In 2004, she joined Hervé Niquet's ensemble Le Concert Spirituel. Piérot has been a member of the ensemble Concerto Rococo under director Jean-Patrice Brosse, and of Les Nièces de Rameau, conducted by Florence Malgoire. She is a member of the chamber group Amarillis and has established her own chamber ensemble, Les Veilleurs de nuit. In addition, Piérot performs duets in Classical-period music with fortepianist Aline Zylberajch. She has taught Baroque violin and orchestra classes at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory. In the nearby city of Avignon, she acquired a disused factory building in 2002 and remodeled it into La Courroie, a new performance and recording space open to experimentation with performance practice and distribution of music of all periods.
Piérot has a long list of recording credits with her various ensembles, dating back to a 1991 recording of trios by Johann Schobert on the Pierre Vérany label. She has also issued several solo recordings, including one of Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber's Mystery Sonatas for the Alpha label in 2003, and one, with Zylberajch, of duo works by C.P.E. Bach under the title Testament et promesses for the label L'Encelade in 2013. In 2021, Piérot was heard in an ensemble recording of Bach's The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080, on Harmonia Mundi.
