Sharman Plesner and David Levi pay homage to pre-war Vienna in this album, the theme of which alludes to Stefan Zweig's book "The World of Yesterday", the one of the flamboyant Vienna of the pre-war era, where the writer grew up, this happy and opulent Vienna of the "Belle-Epoque" where music was part of the pleasures of life. But this sweetness of life suddenly turns out to be ephemeral, although it seemed immutable. This alternation of insouciance and nostalgia that punctuates the main thread of the programme inspires the two musicians to give a sensitive performance, without excess. The sound color "old phonogram" of The Blue Danube is a deliberate effect to evoke the world of yesterday. (Qobuz)
