Michael Blume

With his resonant voice and genre-bending sound, Michael Blume emerged in the 2010s as a highly dynamic performer, increasingly well known for his hip-hop, R&B, and dance-pop-infused songs. A former member of the Yale Whiffenpoofs a cappella group, Blume grabbed audience attention in 2016 with his When I Get It Right EP. Raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Blume grew up in an upper-middle-class Jewish family. While he always loved music, his primary focus initially was school, which he excelled at. After high school, he enrolled at Yale majoring in Latin-American studies. During his time there, he also studied abroad in Brazil, where he led a children's choir. In his final year at the university, Blume joined the prestigious all-male a cappella ensemble the Whiffenpoofs. It was while touring with the ensemble that he realized he wanted to shift away from academia and pursue a singing career. Upon graduating, Blume moved to New York City and began building a following with his unique, cross-pollinated sound, weaving in elements of hip-hop, R&B, and electronica. Even in those early days, Blume frequently focusing his lyrics on socially conscious themes, especially gay rights -- which were of major personal concern to Blume as an openly gay man. Following a 2016 EP, he issued his full-length debut, cynicism & sincerity, in 2018.
