On avait laissé les Chemical Brothers en 2019 avec leur neuvième album studio No Geography, quelque peu éclipsé par la réédition la même année de Surrender, qui fêtait ses 20 ans. Si leur album culte était blindé de guests, avec Noel Gallagher d’Oasis et Bernard Sumner de New Order, cette nouvelle livraison met le focus sur Tom Rowlands et Ed Simons, qui ont tourné tout l’été avec un live hypnotique. Bon, il y a bien quelques guests, dont Beck et Halo Maud, chanteuse française free-lance (Melody's Echo Chamber, Moodoïd), mais on sent surtout que les Mancuniens avaient envie de se faire plaisir sur ce dixième album, un passage forcément symbolique. On retrouve toujours leur patte, cette production saturée, cette approche bruitiste qui fait leur ADN et a fait leur gloire. On l’entend sur Skipping Like a Stone, le titre avec Beck, qui aurait fait un excellent morceau pop chez d’autres. Mais pas chez les apôtres du big beat, qui furètent un peu dans tous les coins, trip-hop (Magic Wand), funk psyché (The Weight), à la Daft Punk (en version remix techno sur No Reason), ou du big beat comme en 92 (les sept minutes purement dancefloor de Feels Like I Am Dreaming), comme une quête de “that beautiful feeling”.
