De sa voix chaude et toujours aussi sensuelle, Allison Moorer pilote son huitième album avec une perfection rare. L’affaire n’était guère aisée tant les cinq années qui séparent ce Down To Believing de son prédécesseur Crows paru en 2010 furent d’une rare violence pour la chanteuse d’Alabama : entre la découverte de l’autisme de son fils John Henry et son divorce avec Steve Earle, Moorer avait sans doute de bonnes raisons pour sombrer. C’est l’inverse qui semble s’être produit et son malheur fut ainsi source d’inspiration. Un disque cathartique slalomant entre country rock nerveux et folk introspectif qui, même lorsqu’il frôle des rives un brin pop ou FM, conserve une classe folle. © MD/Qobuz
