Pendant une quinzaine d'années, le successeur tant attendu de The Chronic 2001 devait voir le jour sous le titre The Detox, et aura constitué l'un des serpents de mer les plus insaisissables du business musical avec le Chinese Democracy des Guns 'N' Roses. Au final, c'est sous le titre de Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre accompagnant la sortie d'un biopic sur N.W.A. qu'apparaît le nouvel effort du célébrissime producteur californien. Musicalement, ce dernier n'a rien perdu de sa faculté à flairer l'air du temps mais ne fait pourtant aucune concession et sait encore ménager ses effets, même si les fans de la prmière heure se tourneront sans doute en premier sur les titres avec Snoop Dogg (le très funky "Satisfiction") ou Kendrick Lamar.
