Enregistré alors que l’album Tapestry caracole en tête des classements américains (et du reste du monde, en fait, et pour six longues années encore), ce concert est un délice d’intimité, et d’impressionnisme.

Construit autour du répertoire de Tapestry, et des deux albums qui l’encadrent chronologiquement (Writer, et Music), il offre une sorte de best of acoustique du répertoire de la dame, qui entame la soirée seule au piano, avant d’être rejoint par le bassiste Charles Larkey, et son compagnon au sein de The Fugs – et ami de longue date – le guitariste Danny Kortchmar, ainsi qu’une plus sporadique section de cordes.

L’ami James Taylor vient rejoindre la chanteuse pour une évocation en medley du bon vieux temps (et, entre autres, une très plaisante version du « Up On the Roof » magnifié une dizaine d’années auparavant par The Drifters). Et Carole King démontre en dix-sept vignettes (« It’s Too Late », ou « I Feel The Earth Move » : tous les incunables sont offerts), qu’au royaume de la musique, la nostalgie reste ce qu’elle était.
