This 1991 recording of a polished but unslick city band on the order of Marrabenta combines local rhythms with touches of soukous in the horns, a notably eastern African sound in the guitars and an indefinably Portuguese/Brazilian undertow. The really extremely individual and attractive result is enriched by the solo sax playing of Jose "Seca" Alage, who was murdered by street thugs in 1993.
