Acerca de la Playlist

Nacido en 1957 en Los Ángeles, David Lang estudió composición en Stanford y en la Universidad de Iowa antes de doctorarse en Yale con Martin Bresnick. En 1987, junto con Michael Gordon y Julia Wolfe, fundó Bang on a Can, un colectivo que revolucionó los límites entre la música contemporánea, el rock y el minimalismo. Su obra más famosa, «The Little Match Girl Passion», inspirada en Andersen y estructurada como una Pasión de Bach, ganó el Premio Pulitzer en 2008. Al año siguiente, grabó una versión con el Theatre of Voices dirigido por Paul Hillier, que ganó un premio Grammy. David Lang colabora con formaciones como el Kronos Quartet, el International Contemporary Ensemble y el Ensemble Modern. En 2015 compuso «simple song #3» para la película «Youth» de Paolo Sorrentino, que le valió una nominación a los Oscar y a los Globos de Oro. Artista residente en el Carnegie Hall en 2013, creó «death speaks», una reflexión sobre la muerte en la tradición del lied, con la participación de Bryce Dessner y Shara Nova. Su obra «prisoner of the state», presentada en 2019 en la New York Philharmonic, es una reinterpretación del «Fidelio» de Beethoven en forma de fábula política sobre la opresión.
