Silk Road Assassins

Chemist, lovedr0id, and Tom E. Vercetti make up Silk Road Assassins, a mysterious U.K. grime act influenced by American hip-hop styles such as trap and drill, as well as video game soundtracks, science fiction, and anime. Their tracks are typically slow and atmospheric, with mournful synth melodies and clear yet heavy bass tones. After initially surfacing during the mid-2010s, the trio made their full-length debut with 2019's Planet Mu-issued State of Ruin. Silk Road Assassins' music began appearing online in 2014, and by the end of the year they had contributed a guest mix to Faze Miyake's program on London-based dance radio station Rinse FM. They also attracted attention from grime producer Mr. Mitch, whose label Gobstopper Records released an early 2015 EP titled Peace Edits, which included Silk Road Assassins' track "T." The trio then signed to Planet Mu, and their track "Shaded" appeared on the label's 20th anniversary compilation µ20 - 20 Years of Planet Mu. The group's debut EP, Reflection Spaces, was issued by the label in April 2016. A single titled "Deadcell" was released by grime label Coyote Records the same year. Little was heard from the group for the next few years, other than their 2018 remix of Mr. Mitch's "VPN." They finally made their full-length debut when State of Ruin appeared in 2019. Partially recorded at Abbey Road Studios, the intricately detailed album included guest production from WWWINGS and Kuedo.
